Definition
Perform a variety of construction, electrical and technical stage production duties; supervise stage production, assist faculty, students and staff. Lead other employees.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class perform theater technical duties requiring knowledge and skill in carpentry, electricity, sound and the translation of scenic and lighting designs into actual working elements of production and function as technical advisor to production managers and producers in theater and television staging. Lead other personnel in the setting-in, running, striking and disposal of scenery.
Typical Work
Lead the set-in, running, strike and disposal or storage of all scenery for stage productions;
Lead and assist with the hanging, circuiting and focusing of stage lighting equipment according to a designer's light plot;
Operate switchboards and non-complex sound equipment; instruct students in operation of this equipment as they are assigned to crew a show;
Construct scenery and instruct students in methods to translate scenic displays into working drawings and actual elements of stage scenery (journey-apprentice);
Conduct maintenance and adjustment of all stage equipment and on-stage lighting instruments and related equipment in accordance with existing safety regulations;
Maintain stock of stage lighting gels;
Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
Two years of experience as Stage Technician 1.
OR
Equivalent education/experience.
Examination Requirements
