Direct the activities of a major photo-media center and its satellites.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class are responsible for overall coordination and management of the activities and facilities involved in course development, production of instructional materials, evaluation of learning experience, library services, technical services and training services in a photo-media center and its satellites.
Typical Work
Perform research on methods of introducing educational materials into the photo-media centers;
Coordinate activities required for course development toward the use of photo-media materials and the subsequent evaluation of these teaching materials;
Maintain centers for books, journals, and research reports dealing with instructional media, methodology, and research in photo-media area;
Manage activities at the photo-media centers involved in the development of instructional materials such as films, video-tapes, slide sets, and photographs; direct production aspect of laboratories used for both instruction and production activities;
Supervise students and counsel faculty in the utilization of instructional materials and the meeting of their educational objectives;
Act as consultant to the faculty in the development of new teaching materials and equipment, training on the use of photo-media software, and provide technical assistance in equipment operation and production;
Participates as resource to faculty in conferences, workshops, demonstrations, and classes on the application and utilization of photo-media materials;
Use specialty image and photo related software and applications;
Provide support and technical advice on the use of cameras and software applications for photographic images and multimedia productions;
Electronically maintain database or catalog of assets;
Provide faculty with information regarding material and services available;
Responsible for overall coordination of budgetary and purchasing requirements;
Interview and train personnel for the photo-media centers; supervise personnel at these centers;
Performs other duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
Master's Degree in education or a science discipline and four years of applicable experience, two of which must be in a supervisory role involving learning resource education or media center operations. Four additional years of appropriate experience may substitute for educational requirements.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Examination Requirements:
A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability, and other elements which are established through job analysis.
