Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the provision of assistive technology services to Division of Vocational Rehabilitation customers in a specific geographic area. Works with the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and other professionals as needed to assess functional limitations and need for assistive technology, and implement assistive technology plans to aid people with disabilities obtain or retain work.

This is the first level in a two-level series.  Employees perform a full range of duties and gains direct customer experience in providing assistive technology.  Employees will often be part of a team of vocational rehabilitation professionals exploring and implementing the best solutions available to assist severely disabled customers attain vocational goals.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

A Masters’ degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a rehabilitative science; and 

Completion of an “Intensive Assistive Technology Practitioner Program” offered by an accredited college or university (12 semester hours equivalent). 

Note:  For incumbents transitioning into the Assistive Technology and Assessment Practitioner 1, the 12 semester hours will be gained while they are on the job.

Note:  For incumbents of the Vocational Rehabilitation Regional Medical Program Consultant class who will transition into this new class ONLY, an MSW or certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) will be considered qualifying for the degree requirement.
