Definition
Typical Work
Keeps the supervisor apprised of emergency or unusual incidents in progress and takes control of the system during these incidents;
Assists in the evaluation of new or modified equipment; may assist with the development of specifications for the acquisition of new equipment;
Maintains, publishes and distributes necessary directories and other publications and reports;
Assumes complete responsibility for the supervision of the radio and environmental system control in the absence of the supervisor, providing control, direction, and guidance to all personnel and keeping command personnel informed as necessary;
Documents personnel work performances during the supervisor's absence. Evaluates productivity and efficiency of work unit and works closely with the supervisor to establish policies and procedures and to promote uniformity of operations;
Acts as a primary trainer for on-the-job training given to new employees;
Works with radio and maintenance personnel to recognize potential problems and system malfunctions so appropriate repairs can be made.

Desirable Qualifications
Positions typically require a High School graduation or GED
AND
Two years of experience as a principal radio operator or dispatcher using multi-band, two-way radio equipment and personal computers.
