Conducts internal operational investigations and assists law enforcement and fire department personnel in investigations of liquor store robberies, burglaries, larcenies, shoplifting, cash shortages, inventory losses, fires and accidents. May supervise and direct the activities of security personnel of lower classification.

Investigates unexplained cash and inventory shortages, burglaries, larcenies; 

Conducts physical surveys and/or background investigations of employees or potential employees, and completes formal recording of the results of all investigations; 

Maintains continual contact and makes cooperative arrangements with law enforcement and security agencies throughout the State; 

Recommends regulations to implement and maintain proper security measures for liquor stores and agencies; 

Recommends the selection, purchase, installation and maintenance of security devices in liquor stores; 

Installs and may operate surveillance cameras in liquor stores to detect thefts of inventory or money; 

Investigates operational procedures for handling and recording cash, inventory control, store opening and closing, etc., to ensure security of Liquor Control Board property; 

Makes arrests as authorized; 

Supervises and directs the activities of security personnel of lower classification; 

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge of:  rules and regulations governing operation of State‑owned liquor stores; laws of arrest, search and seizure; requirements for prosecution; court procedures; legal rights of citizens; rules of evidence; basic locksmithing; criminal investigation technique; basic auditing procedures; security and alarm systems. 

Ability to: analyze bookkeeping records; deal effectively with law enforcement personnel; obtain factual information by interview from employees and the public; prepare concise, factual reports; conduct investigations; deal with employees, police agencies and the public with tact and good judgment.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

A Bachelor's degree in police science, business administration or public administration or closely allied field and two years of experience in law enforcement, security investigation or auditing. 

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year for year, for the required education.
