Serves as a field inspector and consultant on electrical installation work to assure the adherence to state standards and specifications by contractors or state forces.

Reviews preliminary and final contract plans to advise in matters of practical construction methods;

Assures adherence to state laws, contract plans, standard specifications, national, state and local electrical codes;

Directs the more difficult electrical trouble shooting of complex existing facilities;

Trains personnel in inspection of traffic signal installations, highway illumination and maintenance facilities;

Performs as chief electrical inspector on Department of Transportation contracts and electrical work performed by state personnel on new, existing and upgrading of existing systems;

Represents District at meetings of electrical contractors, architects, engineers electrical workers, public utilities and municipal groups to develop cooperative relations;

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge of:  applicable Department of Transportation Standard Specifications, contract plans, laws, codes and safety requirements.

Ability to: read and interpret contract plans and drawings of electrical installations; interpret and apply standard specification of electrical codes; explain technical aspects of electrical construction; prepare reports; conduct electrical inspection, utilizing special aerial list equipment.

Four years of experience as a journey level electrician or power lineworker.


Eight years of engineering experience which includes four years of full time experience as an electrical inspector on highway construction projects.

A valid driver's license is required.
