Definition
Within an agency or institution's information systems organization, operates a library facility for magnetic recording media and/or schedules, stages, codes and/or audits all input within a predetermined schedule for a mainframe/mini computer system.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the journey-level class of the series. Under general supervision, performs data control functions in the preparation and distribution of computer input/output for frequently run routine jobs with predictable variables such as: (1) preparing and organizing input for computer processing; (2) setting up jobs to run on computers; (3) staging the run sequence on routine jobs, verifying results of the run.
Typical Work
Monitors the quality control function for input and output;
Maintains controls on input received;
Maintains controls on computer-readable storage media;
Stages jobs for computer processing;
De-stages computer processed jobs;
Reviews computer output for completeness and routes to proper destination;
Controls inventory and orders required supplies;
Monitors data control schedule to meet commitments to users;
Confers with users to update and monitor control mechanisms;
Forwards output to user;
Stages and submits statistical processes for maintaining required library functions, including inventory;
Acts as liaison between computer operations and users when required;
Maintains books of account for warrants, identification cards and other pre-numbered computer printed output documents;
May perform the duties of Information Technology – Data Processor 1;
May direct the work of others;
Performs other work as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: electronic data processing and basic computer concepts; office practices and procedures; records maintenance and control.
Ability to: understand and carry out oral and written instructions, work with others; write clearly.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.
Desirable Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
AND
Two years of data processing experience, involving auditing, coding, scheduling, and/or staging functions for a mainframe/mini computer system.
Completion of a two-year vocational training course in electronic data processing or college-level course work in computer science may be substituted, year for year, for two years of the general data processing experience.
