Performs routine tasks related to operation of computers, computer peripheral and computer-related equipment.
Distinguishing Characteristics
First-level class of series. Under direct supervision, performs routine tasks related to computer operations, such as I/O functions, cleaning tapes, disks, operating computers or computer-related equipment (e.g., graphic plotters, optical scanners).
Typical Work
Performs I/O functions by operating card readers, line printers and other unit record equipment;
Assists in receiving, storing and maintaining computer supplies inventory;
Cleans tape, disk, card and printing devices;
Operates computer, peripheral computer equipment and computer-related equipment, such as bursters, decollators, sorters, collators, satellite devices such as keypunch, terminals, etc.;
Assists in tape library, including tape maintenance and storage;
May answer or refer user questions;
Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: basic high school mathematics and science.
Ability to: communicate orally and in writing; understand and execute technical instructions; complete log entries, analyze problems and formulate logical solutions; learn rapidly.

Desirable Qualifications
High School Diploma, or GED Certificate; OR six months of related work experience or applicable training.
