This appropriation will reduce the maintenance and preservation backlog for the department's Tumwater HQ building. Projects will be completed to maintain, preserve and extend the life of the building while improving the energy efficiency of system components. These projects will also improve site and facility safety for staff and customers.

Interior Lighting and Controls Upgrade

This project will retrofit the existing florescent fixtures with LED fixtures at the department's Tumwater HQ building. LED fixtures will be controlled by on occupancy and daylighting sensors but have manual capability for dimming as needed. Additionally, new front end lighting controls will be added to allow optimization and adjustment of the upgraded lighting system.

Solar Panel Installation - Lab & Training Facility

Installation of 592 solar panels on the lab and training rooftop is funded. This project aligns with the governor’s priorities for carbon neutrality by moving this state-owned and occupied building closer to net zero. As a laboratory facility, its power requirements are larger than many other facilities, setting an example for new construction.
